Massage Therapy & Healthcare - Admission Requirements
All applicants must provide documentation of successful completion of the following requirements, as applicable:
For Applicants, 18 of age but below 19 of age
Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or a High School Diploma from other Canadian Provinces, Territories, or the United States of America (USA).
For Applicants, 19 years of age and over
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
- Equivalents for OSSD admission purposes can include:
- High School Diploma from other Canadian Provinces, Territories, or USA.
- An official transcript, diploma, or certificate from another country assessed at OSSD level by a recognized education/credential evaluation center.
- Post-secondary Diploma or degree from Colleges or Universities in Canada or the USA.
- Non-Canadian or Non-USA post-secondary diploma and degree formally evaluated by a recognized education/credential evaluation center.
- Any educational credential or certification from Canadian or USA formal learning institutions accepted by an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology for entry to a post-secondary program.
For Mature Students
Applicants must be 19 years of age and over.
- If the applicant does not have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, and English is not their first language, their English Proficiency must be assessed.
- Applicants must demonstrate during the interview process that they have the language and cognitive abilities necessary to complete the program. They must satisfy an Achievement Surveys or Evaluations and satisfy one of the following English Proficiency requirements:
Additional Admission Requirements for All Applicants
A. Language Proficiency Requirements
Applicants who have not completed a minimum of three full years of high school in Canada, the United States, or a country where English is the primary language of instruction must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following options:
- Completion of a standardized English language test within the past 24 months, achieving the required minimum scores as outlined below:
- CAEL – CE and CAEL:
- Overall band score of 60.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT):
- Minimum average score of 20 in Speaking, Writing, and Reading components, and a minimum score of 24 in Listening,
- or a minimum score of 550 on the Paper-Based Test (PBT).
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic):
- Overall band score of 6.5, with no individual component score lower than 6.0.
- Michener English Language Assessment (MELA):
- Overall band score of 7.5, with no individual component score lower than 7.0.
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP – General):
- Overall band score of 7.5, with no individual component score lower than 7.0.
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic):
- Overall band average score of 58, with no individual component score lower than 51.
- CAEL – CE and CAEL:
- Successful completion of a minimum of two full years of study in an accredited Canadian university degree program or an accredited college advanced diploma program in a country or institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
- Successful completion of an accredited English as a Second Language (ESL) program offered by an accredited Canadian postsecondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
B. Introductory Health Science, Basic English for Healthcare Professional and Medical Terminology requirements
Applicants who have not completed a minimum of one (1) Grade 11 or Grade 12 Human Science course (or equivalent) and minimum of 3 full year’s high school in Canada or USA must complete the following, no later than the first 30 days of the Massage Therapy program:
- Introductory Health Science Workshop;
- Basic English for Healthcare professional; and
- Medical Terminology
C. Health and Safety Documentations
All applicants must provide formal documentation or official references confirming the completion of the following:
- Confidential Entry Immunization Form, including:
- Proof of immunization status for Hepatitis B, with a physician's interpretation of results.
- Results and physician’s interpretation of mandatory Tuberculosis (TB) testing.
- Vulnerable Sector Check, issued within the past 6 months.
Refusing Admission
Failure to Meet Requirements
Applicants who fail to meet any of the above admission requirements, including failure of the admission test and (or) language proficiency assessments, will be refused admission to the program.
Language Proficiency
Applicants who fail to meet the language proficiency requirement will be advised to complete additional English language training.
They may enroll in Protégé School’s English (ESL) courses or complete an equivalent ESL program at a recognized accredited College. Applicants must subsequently retake and attain the required scores on an approved third-party English language assessment before reapplying.
Record Keeping
The school will retain records of failed admission attempts for 60 days from the date of the initial application.
Retaking Admission Requirements
Applicants who fail the admission requirements may reattempt the admission test and/or other required evaluations within 60 days of their initial application, provided they are first:
- Successfully complete an in-person interview conducted by a school-appointed interviewer.
Interview Details:- Duration: 10 to 20 minutes.
- Outcome: Applicants who pass the interview will be permitted to retake the admission test(s).
