Program Description
The Professional Makeup and Creative Arts Diploma Program at Protégé School is an immersive, industry focused training experience that blends theoretical knowledge, hands on practical skill development, and creative portfolio building. Designed for students who aspire to excel in the beauty, bridal, fashion, and entertainment sectors, this program prepares graduates to become versatile, employment ready artists capable of delivering a full spectrum of professional makeup and creative services.

Courses Description
Unit 1. Introduction to the Professional Makeup Industry and Its Career Opportunities
This introductory course will explore the past, present and future of the beauty and wellness industry. Students will be familiarized with career opportunities in the field of beauty and cosmetology as well as industry professional ethics, standards and practices
Unit 2. Occupational Health and Safety and Hygiene, Sanitation, Sterilization and Bacteriology
This unit focuses on the importance of personal and public hygiene, occupational industry standards, all governing Public Health regulations, health and safety, sanitation and infection control guidelines. The implementation of this unit is found in all practical components of the Medical Esthetic courses and is paramount to the overall success of each unit.
Unit 3. Skin Histology, Anatomy and Physiology
This course will introduce students to the major body systems and their functions. This will provide the foundational knowledge needed for all practical spa treatments. This unit covers the fundamental understanding of the human body and the mechanisms by which the body functions; and will prepare students for subsequent courses. Topics include the structure and functions of the skin, nervous system, circulatory system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, muscular and endocrine systems.
Unit 4. Skin Analysis; Basic Skin care and Treatments; Basic Chemistry & Electricity; Product Knowledge
Covers the knowledge on how to apply to perform skin analysis and or conduct a consulting session to decide which type of skin care and treatment on what skin conditions; basic knowledge of basic chemistry and electricity to identify what products and equipment to use for the care and treatment. Product knowledge includes knowing their ingredients and method of applications to help client on product selections.
Unit 5. Facial Massage and Treatments
This course provides both theoretical and hands on understanding of the benefits and contraindications of performing different massage techniques such as effleurage, tapotement, friction, petrissage and vibration. As well as mastering the art of rhythm, speed and contact while performing facial and decollete massages.
Unit 6. Hair removal by Waxing; Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments
Covers the morphology of hair and its growth; methods of temporary and permanent hair removal; how to perform face and body hair removing by waxing; identify the conditions that contraindicate hair removal; Eyelash applications and how to conduct client consultations.
Unit 7. Makeup Artistry1
Covers the different types of cosmetics and its use; demonstrate understanding of cosmetic color theory; client consultation to determine their preferences and needs; identify the different facial features and demonstrate procedures of corrective makeup; perform makeup technique on different occasions; demonstrate application of artificial eyelashes.
Unit 8. Nail Histology, Safe Work Practices, Manicure, Pedicure; Creative Nails
This course provides students with the opportunity to become proficient in hand and foot care; including paraffin treatments, hand and foot massage, French manicures, and shellac polish through demonstrations and practical applications in a lab setting. Following Spa industry standards, professional attitude, client care as well as the correct use of spa implements and industry required infection control guidelines are paramount to successful completion of the program.
Unit 9. Retail Sales Knowledge, Customer Service and Product Recommendations
This course will provide an overview of the cosmetic and fragrance industry including regulatory bodies, and industry associations principal cosmetic and fragrance ingredient categories and manufacturing processes are also examined. Introducing and developing skills for counter manager and selling cosmetics in a retail environment. The student will learn retail sales knowledge, customer service and soft selling skills.
Unit 10. Film, TV, and Runway
The student will expand their knowledge of makeup techniques used by Professional makeup artists including the products, tools and techniques used in fashion, film and television. Practical workshops will allow the student to apply the related theories learned, to enhance basic skills and further develop their creative artistic ability with makeup application in fashion, film and television.
Unit 11. Creative Makeup; Special Effects
This subject is designed to encourage students to express creativity in the application of avant-garde and fantasy makeup, focus on character development and character designs for runway, editorial makeup and stage productions. Creative and special effects techniques are an exciting component in developing students' artistic makeup ability.
Unit 12. Business
This course’s key elements are learning the fundamentals of establishing a successful business along with the skills required to run a business. Including sales & marketing strategies, management & communication skills, and government & applicable sales tax regulations.
Unit 13. Portfolio Development
Students will prepare a professional career portfolio for the cosmetic industry suitable for presentation to prospective employers. Participation in a professional photographic shoot will allow the students to include photographs showcasing their creativity and makeup ability. Through role-playing, students will develop the skills, ability and confidence required in a professional career interview.
Unit 14. Semi-Permanent Makeup- Micropigmentation
This course looks at tattoos and their evolution into the world of cosmetics and permanent makeup. Learning the importance of corrective makeup and the role eyebrows have by framing the face. Understanding the skin's physiology and revisiting colour theory in order to implant pigment correctly and effectively for best results. Identify the different anatomical shapes of the face and correctly measure symmetrical eyebrows.
